Southwest Artists, through the Mena Art Gallery, has been providing Mena and Polk County with art of all kinds: paintings, photographs, sculpture, and much more.

We have displayed the work of local artists and brought you such nationally known artists as Ray Pigg. Plans for the future include local artist, Bill Wells, and well known Little Rock artist Barry Thomas.

Successful community art activities:

• Established a sculpture garden on the courthouse grounds for everyone to enjoy. After the devasting tornado we are still waiting to rebuild this project.

• Recently completed our 2nd open studio tour where two dozen artists opened their studios for three days allowing over 350 people to watch these artists and artisans at work in their studio environment.

• Recruited new sponsors which have enabled us to offer two shows a year with cash awards near $3,000 for each show.

Quality Education, Shows and Competitions:

• For twenty three years we have sponsored an annual high school show.

• 2010 will be our fourth year for a children’s art show.

• We hope to offer classes in 2010 from everything from beginning drawing to oil painting, and workshops from creating Shaker wooden boxes to making glass beads and plein air painting.

• Once a month we have children’s classes at the gallery; our artists work with many of the art classes in local schools to give students a glimpse of what they might do in this field.

Now we need your help.

Funding for the Executive Director position through grants available at that time, ceased last year on January 1, 2009. It has been only through generous donations of gallery members and members in the community that we have been able to retain a part-time Executive Director at the cost of $15,000 annually plus Social Security withholdings.

We are seeking your support in two ways:

· Make a donation, using the form linked below, to donate whatever amount fits into your charitable budget for 2010, and

· Become a member of the Mena Art Gallery, if you are not presently a member, by indicating so on the same form (see link below)

Donations greater than $25.00 are tax deductible, and we can provide the form for your use in preparing your 2010 Federal Income Tax report.

Please consider what you might be able to give, either as a lump sum now, or as increments paid over the coming year.

Please return the attached form to the gallery at 607 Mena Street, Mena, AR 71953. And thank you very much for considering joining and/or supporting your art gallery.

Very truly yours,

MENA ART GALLERY

Rick Chrisman, Chairman of the Board
